According to the policy approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date at all times. At the same time, this info is freely visible on WHOIS lookup sites and while this may be okay for corporations, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since everyone can view their names and their personal home and email addresses, particularly in an age when identity fraud is not that unusual. That’s the reason why domain registrars have come up with a service that conceals the details of their customers without changing them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. In case it’s enabled, people will see the details of the registrar company, not the domain owner’s, if they perform a WHOIS lookup. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic TLD extensions, but it’s still not possible to hide your personal info with certain country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Website Hosting

If you get a shared website hosting package from us, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names on the condition that their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain name and enable Whois Privacy Protection during the signup procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any moment afterwards through the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is amazingly easy – after you log in, you will have to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll find a list of all the domain names that you’ve registered with us. For each of them you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” sign, which will let you know if the service is activated or not. By clicking it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently activated.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Ordering Whois Privacy Protection for any domain is amazingly easy in case you have a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain is registered with us, it will be displayed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with each semi-dedicated package. In case a given generic or country-code domain name supports Whois Privacy Protection, you will see a mini sign on the right-hand side of that domain. To activate the service, you will need to click on it. In the exact same way, you can also renew or remove the service. You can enable Whois Privacy Protection for a domain name during the account order process as well, but since the Whois Privacy Protection service is optional, we will give you the possibility to add it to any of your domain names at a later time in case you think things over and choose to conceal your personal information from the public eye after you’ve already created the semi-dedicated account.
