Every single registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain name to the servers of a certain web hosting company. That way, you have both your website and your emails managed by the very same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there is a variety of other records, such as A and MX. The first one reveals which server deals with the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, any time you type a domain in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you may be directed to the servers of a different service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the site and the e-mails means that you can have your website and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting account through our company and you would like to switch either your site or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it is going to take you literally simply two clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard two, it won't take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a given MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you modify or create isn't going to take more than a few hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting, will permit you to view the A and MX records for any of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if needed, to update any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is quite easy because all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and in case you experience any difficulties, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you total control of all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
